The Edge of Forever is not a location within the Archive. It is a threshold — the point where information density exceeds what any single consciousness can hold without beginning to dissolve. Beyond it, identity starts to destabilize. The boundary is not a wall. It is a warning written into the structure of reality itself.
Marcus reaches it. And waiting there is The Veiled One: a former Observer who refused to stop at the boundary, who pursued total understanding at the cost of everything that made them a self. The Veiled One is not evil. It is what remains when a consciousness refuses the limits that preserve it.
The encounter forces Marcus to ask what he is actually looking for — and whether any answer would be worth the cost of losing the person who wanted it.
